PYRO FEATHER ON GOURD - Peter Birkman

Course length: 4 hours
This class involves the use of different burning tips to create a realistic looking feather. Wax can be applied to finish and preserve the design. Please bring your own variable heat burner and a skew, flat shader and writing tip.
HAND CARVING WITH GOUGES: Gary Devine

This class involves the use of different hand gouges to create geometric and figurative images. Stains and wax are applied to finish and preserve the designs. All supplies are provided, except saws. If you wish to open the gourd, please bring your own cutting and cleaning tools.

ADVANCED PATTERNED CLOSED COILING WITH WAXED LINEN - Catherine Devine

Ability level: Previous experience necessary

Course length: 7.5 hours
Students MUST have taken closed coiling with waxed linen previously. The class will be a full day, and the project may be completed at home, depending on the complexity of design chosen. Patterns will be provided, but if the student wishes to produce their own pattern, they will need a sketch beforehand. If the coiling is an extension of a pattern on the gourd, then the student must supply their own gourd already finished except for the coiling. (Contact the instructor prior to class for instructions on hole placement). The morning will be a discussion of how to create your own patterns. The afternoon students will begin the pattern on the gourd.
GOURD NATIVE DOLL - Elizabeth Gordon

This class involves sculpting a human face out of air dry clay on a gourd. Then enjoy the process of making the costume to go on the doll.
GREENMAN MASK - Wendy Rinehart

Material Fee: $25.00 - includes pre-cut gourd, leather, 1 sheet of Tyvek, cloth leaves, paint, printed eyes, glass for eyes, foam brush for painting.

Course length: 7.5 hours
Students need to bring: Aleene’s super tacky glue, 1 small round brush (#2 or #3), water bowl, paper plate for mixing colours, paper towels, a felt tip pen that will work on leather, scissors for cutting paper and leather.

About Wendy Lynne Rinehart a.o.c.a.
Trained as a Graphic and Fine artist, Wendy’s interests developed in a three dimensional direction when she studied weaving and tapestry at the Ontario College of Art and Design. After years of painting in Watercolours, pastels and acrylics she rediscovered the joys of sculpting. Using polyclay and paperclay she started creating one of a kind fantasy and portrait figures. She has won many awards and is currently nominated for two dolls in the Dolls Awards of Excellence.
